Improve Your Quality of Life

with a Hip Replacement

When your hip becomes damaged by arthritis or another condition, it makes life difficult. Pain, stiffness, and decreased mobility can make virtually everything a struggle. If you have tried other nonsurgical methods without results, a hip replacement at Vallarta Orthopedics  can help you find relief. Our world-class surgeons, Dr. Roberto Lara de La Fuente and Dr. Santiago Torres Becerra, have spent over 32 years performing minimally invasive orthopedic surgery. We perform all of our surgeries at CMQ Riviera Nayarit. This hospital in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, is equipped with the latest medical technology.

The Components

of a Hip Replacement Device

Modern hip replacement devices can restore your comfort and full range of motion.

Is a Hip Replacement Right for Me?

There are no age or weight restrictions for a total hip replacement. This procedure has been performed for patients of all ages with positive results. Our surgeons typically recommend undergoing hip replacement surgery to patients who:

  • Have hip pain that limits normal activities, such as walking

  • Continue to experience hip pain even while resting

  • Have limited ability to move or lift their leg due to stiffness in the hip joint

  • Cannot find relief from anti-inflammatory drugs, walking supports, or physical therapy

The best way to find out if a hip replacement can help you is to visit a doctor. Your general physician can perform an orthopedic evaluation, including x-rays and a physical exam, to assess the level of damage to your joint. You can also schedule a consultation with our team to find out more about your surgical options.

The Replacement Procedure

We perform all of our orthopedic surgeries at the world-class CMQ Riviera Nayarit. Most hip replacements take place under general anesthesia to prevent patients from feeling any pain during the procedure. The goal of this treatment is to remove and replace damaged bone and cartilage, restoring the comfort and function of the joint.

A typical hip replacement takes a few hours. We use minimally invasive techniques that offer a variety of benefits, including:

  • Less blood loss

  • Decreased pain following surgery

  • Shorter hospital stays

  • Reduced scarring

  • Quicker healing

During the procedure, your surgeon will replace the top of the thigh bone with a ball component made of metal or ceramic and place a socket component on the hip bone. These two devices work together to create an artificial hip joint that moves smoothly and allows you to enjoy a more comfortable, active life.

Our Recovery Program

We offer full support throughout your recovery process, even after you return home. Before your procedure, we will provide a comprehensive plan for your recovery. We typically recommend patients remain in Puerto Vallarta about five days and four nights.

You can also choose to remain in our beautiful city until the removal of your sutures two weeks after surgery. Once you return home, you will have access to a support group and we can coordinate with your doctors to help ensure your hip heals properly.

At Vallarta Orthopedics , we provide high-quality, minimally invasive orthopedic surgery at a fraction of the cost of procedures in the United States and Canada.

You should be able to resume normal light activities within three to six weeks of surgery. You can gradually increase the distance you walk and resume other normal household activities at this time. Your physical therapist will guide you through exercises to help restore proper movement and strengthen your hip muscles.
